Overview

Since the first recorded cricket match in Sussex, England in 1697, the sound of wood hitting leather has become a sweet melody for legions of fans around the world. So it is for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

Introduced to the eastern Caribbean nearly a century ago, cricket has become as beloved to Antiguans as the steady trade winds, powdery soft white beaches and pristine coral reefs that bless their island paradise. Antigua has produced some of the West Indies' foremost cricketers -- including Sir Vivian "Master Blaster" Richards, Richie Richardson and fast bowlers Curtley Ambrose and Andy Roberts.
