Overview
Monks Hill is a ruin of an old fort which is also know as Fort George. The original fort was built in 1686 as protection for the town of Falmouth. The fort
was needed because of the chance of attack, as the French had recently captured near by St Kitts. Although there were more buildings being built, by 1713 the fort was at the same
size as it is today.
Although the fort had been built as defence and protection, it had never seen any battles. The French had reportedly approached, but continued past to capture
Montserrat after seeing the size and scale of the fort. There was an addition to the fort of 33 guns in 1731 to further strengthen it.
With fantastic views over Falmouth, Cobbs Cross, Shirley Heights and English harbour, so make sure you have your camera with you!
Monks Hill is a protected area so it is prohibited to disturb the site
