Overview
Carnival is a colourful, exciting celebration of independence that takes place late July and early August. It consists of costumes, parades, pageants, Calypso, Panorama and talent shows, great food and great music.
Over the 2 weeks of the Carnival there are such events as…
- First Lap (start of the carnival)
- J’ouvert
- Queen Show Pageant
- Teen Splash Pageant
- Steel Band Competitions
- Calypso Competitions
- Last Lap (end parade of the carnival)
Carnival is a great time for tourists and visitors to come to Antigua, as they’ll enjoy a real insight to the Antiguan peoples’ culture, customs and character, and be able to take part in the celebrations and non-stop fun that makes this island’s carnival so invigorating and addictive.
